The Cabin's Principal Addiction Treatment Method

Changing Pathway

The Cabin’s Changing Pathway Programme or Recovery Zones is a unique and integrative approach that combines evidence-based techniques like CBT with the proven structure of The 12 Step therapy. Our Western-trained and licensed professionals, with extensive experience in addiction treatment, implement this method. At The Cabin, we believe that integrating the best elements of CBT, 12 Steps, and Mindfulness Meditation leads to an effective and comprehensive treatment approach.

To provide you with a better understanding of how our addiction treatment method works, we’ll guide you through the three recovery zones:
Changing Pathway - Recovery Zone Model

Active Zone

In the Active Zone, we recognize and abstain from substances or behaviours that have become compulsive and destructive. Complete abstinence is the ultimate goal of treatment, although the pace at which each individual reaches this goal may vary. Some clients may require ongoing medication to manage substance dependence or co-occurring disorders.

Danger Zone

The Danger Zone is encompasses behaviours that may lead us back to active addiction.

  • Triggers: Identifying factors that activate addictive behaviors and create a desire to engage in them.
  • Negative Self-Talk: Recognizing and addressing the negative internal dialogue we have with ourselves.
  • Unmanageable Feeling States: Addressing unnecessary negative emotions or feelings such as shame and anger.
  • Ineffective Behaviors: Identifying and reframing maladaptive actions that are not beneficial for our overall well-being and survival.

In The Danger Zone, we focus on understanding and managing these crucial elements that can potentially lead us back to active addiction. By recognizing triggers, challenging negative self-talk, addressing unmanageable feelings, and modifying ineffective behaviors, we can navigate away from the dangers and maintain a healthier path of recovery.

Changing Pathways

The Changing Pathways or Recovery Zone encompasses all the activities and behaviours that contribute to achieving health and well-being. This includes exercise, proper nutrition, attending support meetings, fostering positive relationships, avoiding triggers, and supporting others in their recovery journey.

Mindfulness and The Recovery Zone

Mindfulness, a widely used meditation style, plays a crucial role in our addiction treatment method. Originated in Southeast Asia and has gained significant popularity in psychological health settings worldwide. Widely recognised in Western healthcare systems for treating conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD, mindfulness is increasingly recognized as an effective approach to addiction recovery.

A major benefit of this method is that it focuses on:

  • Slowing Down: Embracing a mindful approach to consciously slow down and heighten our awareness of thoughts, bodily sensations, and movements.
  • Urge Surfing: Utilizing mindfulness as a tool to observe and ride out cravings, integrating addictive thoughts into the meditation practice.
  • Body Scanning: Engaging in progressive relaxation techniques to promote relaxation, enhance sleep quality, and support the recovery process.
